1) Navigate to the website . Under the Tools and Resources tab, click on Footprint Calculator.
2) Click on Take the First Step to begin.
3) Enter your responses by shifting the slider bars on each object to reflect your use. You can add further details by clicking Add Details to Improve Accuracy.
- On the home question, a free standing home without running water means you are on a well, versus with running water means you are on a municipal water system
- If you are not sure of an answer to a question, leave the slider bar in the center which is the average Americans use, or sometimes there is an option for I dont know (slide the bar back and forth to see what the options are).
Using complete sentences, answer the following questions.
- Define the term Ecological Footprint.
- If everyone lived like you, how many earths were required?
- How many global hectares of productive land does it take to support you? Under the Facts and Figures Tab, add up the hectares by land type.
- List the 5 categories in order from highest to lowest in terms of your use (Food, Shelter, Mobility, Goods, Services)
- Describe the major factors in your lifestyle that drove your footprint.
- What, if anything, are you willing to do to reduce your ecological footprint?
