Assignment: Writing a Problem Statement
Unit Outcomes addressed in this assignment:
- Apply evidence-based solutions to current health issues.
Course Outcome addressed in this assignment:
HS830-4: Propose an evidence-based solution to a current health issue.
Instructions:
- Select a specific health care challenge or issue of interest within your field of study or professional practice.
- Write a problem statement for the issue you will be addressing. A quality problem statement will have the following characteristics:
- A single sentence statement
- Hard data support to quantify the problem
- Free of bias or opinion
- Relevance demonstrated through evidence
- Identify seven evidence bases (one for each level in the hierarchy) which have evaluated a solution for the chosen healthcare challenge. Some evidence bases may present the same solution, which is fine. You are looking for seven unique evidence bases representing each of the levels of the evidence hierarchy. That may not translate to seven unique solutions.
- For each evidence base – Provide the following:
- Title, authors, date, publication source and abstract.
- Type of study/evidence within the hierarchy. List them from lowest to highest.
- Critically evaluate the quality, relevance, and applicability of the evidence to inform evidence-based solutions.
- Stakeholders targeted by the solution.
- Health discipline targeted to implement the solution.
- Expected/reported statistical impact of implementation of the solution.
- After evaluating each of the seven evidence bases – propose an evidence-based solution to your problem. Solution should include:
- Explanation of the evidence-based solution. – Your solution must be realistic, feasible and financially viable. Your solution must be clearly linked to your evidence-base.
- Define the objectives, target population, intervention (solution) components, and expected outcomes of the proposed solution. These must be detailed, specific, data driven, measurable, and realistic.
- Justification for your choice (s).
- Ethical considerations.
- Possible unintended consequences.
- Structure your paper according to professional manuscript standards for APA adhering to rigorous standards of academic writing, citation, and references.
- Use side headings to keep your content organized and identifiable.
- All content should be data driven and evidence based.
- Content must be verifiable, and void of bias and/or opinion.
