The Assignment: For this response, you will write a critical, seminar paper in which you engage at least one of the major texts we have read so far this semester. Identify and discuss the specific criticisms surrounding the woman on display in the work. Then, use any of the other readings to examine how this figure is represented, judged, engaged, etc. Some questions to consider are: Who has permission to be on display? What are the parameters? What are the rules? Who determines the rules? How does societys treatment of the women differ regarding their bodies? In what ways do black bodies have agency? In what ways do the intersections of race, class, and gender oppressions limit agency? Audience: You are writing to an academic audience who cares about the theories of learning. As such, your essay should be clear and specific enough for readers to understand your essay. Give a clear thesis with three key points. Be sure you are clear about what ideas you are addressing and HOW you understand and think about those things in a larger context. This is not a summary of what is the texts, nor is it a casual discussion board post. Instead, you are pinpointing minor/major ideas and engaging in a thoughtful conversation about the ways in which women navigate the intersections of race, class, and gender OR white privilege. Formatting: All essays must adhere to MLA style format and must be typed in 12pt. Times New Roman font with 1 inch margins. Each seminar paper must include cited evidence from the readings and a Works Cited page.
