What is Philosophy

Philosophy is a HUGE area of study and it has been going on for at least two THOUSAND years. In universities in the United States and Europe, there is definitely a fixed idea of the history of philosophy.To say the history of philosophy is Euro-Centric would be an understatement. Huge areas of philosophy in China, India, Africa, Indigenous Americas, and elsewhere are often seen as secondary. And even in the “Western” canon, women and minority groups are still deeply under-represented. Things are getting a bit better (in the last 20 years or so) but they are still not great.But in my view, we still need to understand the standard history of philosophy EVEN if it does need to be fixed. It is the water we are swimming in ALL OF THE TIME. Politics, economics, and pretty much everything began with a philosophical ideal.
