Mini-Case Study Scenario:

You are the Nurse Manager for a busy surgical unit in a regional hospital. Your organization is preparing for an upcoming accreditation survey, and leadership recognizes the critical role leadership style plays in shaping quality and patient outcomes. You have been asked to develop a brief action plan describing how leadership style within your unit can be leveraged to improve team engagement, strengthen quality and safety practices, and enhance patient outcomes as part of your units accreditation preparation strategy.

Critical Thinking and Solution Identification:

1. Using 5-Why root cause analysis, identify at least two leadership-related barriers impacting quality and patient outcomes in your unit, explaining why these barriers occur.
2. Describe two specific programmatic or operational leadership strategies you could implement to improve quality and patient outcomes in preparation for accreditation.
3. Explain how data and information systems can be used to monitor, report, and sustain leadership-driven quality and patient safety improvements.
4. Discuss how your plan will align with accreditation standards while achieving measurable quality and patient outcome improvements.
5. Cite at least one relevant point from the assigned article to justify your proposed approach, citing in APA format within your presentation and on your reference slide.
