In this assessment, you will apply what you have learned in this course about professional writing skills and APA style to explain the ramifications of ethical violations in a psychological research study or experiment.

Preparation

Select 1 research study or experiment to analyze.

• Stanford prison experiment

Review the APA Ethics Code located on the page on the APA website. Use what you have learned to identify ethical violations in the study or experiment you selected.

Review faculty and peer feedback you received on the Wk 4 – Research Article Writing Sample and use it to revise your writing sample. Incorporate your revised writing sample into this assessment.

Assessment Deliverable

Write a 700- to 1,050-word article for a psychology publication in which you explain ethical violations in your selected research study or experiment.

Address the following in your article:

• Explain the importance of ethics in research.
• Summarize the research study or experiment you researched.
• Describe the ethical codes that were breached in the selected research study or experiment. For each code:
• Cite specific principles or codes from the APA Ethics Code that you reviewed.
• Explain how the principles or codes were violated.
• Explain what the researcher(s) should have done to avoid violating the principles or codes you identified.
• What actions should they have taken?
• How would that ensure the study or experiment was conducted ethically?

Apply professional communication skills by completing the following steps as you draft and revise your article:

• Write a clear thesis statement in which you present the main arguments or purpose of the article.
• Organize your ideas logically and effectively.
• Integrate 3 to 5 scholarly sources using summaries, paraphrases, or quotations to support your article.
• Review your writing for clarity. Edit and proofread to eliminate errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Cite any sources used to support your research article.

Format citations and references according to APA guidelines.
