In preparation for this assignment:
- Review your chosen case vignette in the media.
- Begin by reviewing the case vignette and the related substance use disorder or behavioral addiction trend that you identified. Reflect on the specific needs and challenges of the individual in the case vignette, and how addiction professionals in your community may be addressing this issue.
- Locate and visit a local agency.
- Identify a local agency that provides treatment for the substance use disorder or behavioral addiction described in the case vignette you selected. This could be a counseling center, inpatient or outpatient treatment facility, or another type of addiction treatment provider. Ensure that the agency provides services relevant to the issue presented in your vignette.
- Interview a staff member or an administrator.
- Request an opportunity to interview a staff member or an administrator at the agency.
- Gather information about the agency’s services, policies, and treatment practices, particularly in relation to the substance use or behavioral addiction in your case vignette and how they address the trend you selected for the Week 3 assignment.
Instructions
For this assignment, create a 1215 slide PowerPoint presentation, based on the information gathered during your interview. The presentation should include detailed information on the following:
- Agency overview and services.
- Agency demographics (for example, location, size, and community served).
- Agency philosophy.
- Ethical policies and procedures related to addiction treatment (for example, confidentiality and informed consent).
- Administrative and clinical structure.
- Staffing patterns.
- Treatment philosophy.
- Treatment methods and modalities.
- Funding sources.
- Eligibility requirements.
- Average length of stay.
- Cultural, class, and ethnic makeup of staff and clientele.
- Referral patterns.
- Success rate.
- Are there any services needed but not available at the agency? If so, describe.
- Are the services comprehensive to provide integrated treatment for co-occurring disorders?
- Speaker’s notes.
- For each slide in your PowerPoint presentation, include detailed speaker’s notes using the Notes function in PowerPoint. These notes should outline the key points you would discuss during a live presentation and provide context or explanations for the information presented on each slide. Additionally, if applicable, include a references slide at the end of your presentation listing all the articles, studies, or other sources you used to support the information. Be sure to cite all references in current APA style.
