Unit VII Research Paper

This four-page research paper measures your mastery of ULOs 1.4, 2.6, 4.3, and 5.3.

Assignment Objective: You will write a four-page research paper on the topic of global hunger and poverty in which you will demonstrate your mastery of the moral theories covered in this course. The assignment will help you gain a better understanding of how moral theories help address real-world ethical issues.

Length: Your completed double-spaced essay must be at least four pages. Title and reference pages do not count towards the total page requirement.

References: You must use and cite at least two sources; one source must come from the CSU Online Library. Adhere to APA Style formatting for this assignment, including in-text citations and references for all sources used.

Details: Complete your assignment by addressing the following:

• In the first paragraph, introduce your paper by briefly describing the problem of hunger and poverty in the world and answering the question of whether we should help others who are suffering from hunger and poverty. Note: your answer to this question is the thesis statement for your paper and must take a position.
• In the second paragraph, choose a moral theory to support your argument. Be sure to define the theory you have chosen and explain why you decided to use it.
• In at least three body paragraphs, provide at least three reasons why we should or should not help others suffering in the world. Note: your reasons should apply the ideas of the moral theory you selected (i.e., we should help because it benefits the majority [result ethics or consequentialism], we should help because humans deserve help and it is the right thing to do [deontology], we should help because we are a global community [care ethics], etc.).
• Identify weaknesses in your argument in at least one body paragraph. What are the weaknesses of the moral theory when applied to this topic? Has evidence for both sides been fully considered?
• In a final paragraph, summarize the points that support your answer. This is the conclusion of your paper.
