Requirements
Your project will consist of three parts: the Policy Proposal, the Executive Summary Slideshow, and the Recorded Reflection.
Part 1: Policy Proposal
Your proposal must:
- Be at least 2,000 words (including the References page)
- Propose a new or significantly revised policy
- Clearly define the problem and explain why it matters
- Present a realistic, well-supported policy proposal
- Include at least four credible, reliable sources, cited in APA style
- Include a personal perspective or story that connects you to the issue
- Use clear structure, logical reasoning, and persuasive rhetorical strategies

- Briefly preview your proposed policy
- End with a strong thesis statement
- Problem Analysis
- Describe the issue in depth using evidence
- Explain who is affected and whats at stake
- Discuss why the current policy is not working
- Personal Connection
- Share a story, experience, or observation that shows why this issue matters to you
- Use it to deepen the readers emotional understanding
- Policy Proposal
- Clearly explain your proposed policy
- Who would implement it? How would it work?
- Counterarguments & Challenges
- Anticipate possible objections or limitations
- Respond with reasoning and/or evidence
- Conclusion
- Re-emphasize the urgency and potential impact
- Leave the reader with a call to action or a powerful final insight
Sources
You must include:
- At least four credible sources (e.g., peer-reviewed journals, government reports, reputable news outlets)
- Proper in-text citations and a References page in APA format
Due Date: First Draft (optional, ungraded): Unit 5; Final Draft: Unit 7
Length: 2,000 words minimum
Format: Typed, double-spaced, APA citation style
Part 2: Executive Summary Slideshow
Using what you learned in Unit 6, create a shareable slideshow (PowerPoint, Prezi, Google Slides, Canva, etc.) that incorporates the following requirements.
Your slideshow must:
- Contain at least three slides.
- Summarize the problem, previous approaches, counterarguments, and challenges
- Present a summary of a feasible policy proposal
- Incorporate 2-3 persuasive, relevant visual elements, considering the following principles:
- Line
- Color
- Shape
- Space
- Texture
- Follow effective design principles from Unit 6, including:
- Proximity
- Alignment
- Repetition
- Contrast
- To ensure accessibility, provide an additional slide or text document that describes the visual elements you chose to incorporate. Describe things like shape, contrast, and colors as if you were describing the images to someone who is visually impaired.
- Include attributions for outside sources or graphics
Due Date: Unit 7
Length: 3-5 slides
Format: PowerPoint, Google Slides (saved as PowerPoint or PDF), Canva (saved as PowerPoint or PDF), Prezi (saved as PowerPoint or PDF)
Due Date: Unit 8
Length: three to four minutes
Format: audio file compatible with LEO.
