Topic: The Role of the Business Analyst
Objective
To help learners reflect on the sphere of influence and competencies of a Business Analyst, and apply them to real-world or simulated scenarios.
Instructions for Learners
- Read: Review Chapter 3 of The PMI Guide to Business Analysis. Focus on:
- Sphere of Influence (product, organization, relationships).
- Competencies (analytical, communication, leadership, tools).
- Task:
- Choose one project or organizational change initiative you know about (it can be from your workplace, university, or a well-documented case study).
- Write a short reflection (300400 words) addressing:
- a) Which sphere of influence (product / organization / relationships) was most important for the BA (or should have been)? Why?
- b) Identify two competencies a BA would need to be successful in this context.
- c) Suggest how the BA could overcome a challenge in communication or stakeholder engagement.
- Submission: Post your reflection in the course discussion forum before the next synchronous session.
