ESSAY ASSIGNMENT 1: (100 points) BACKGROUND: In the Definitive Edition of Anne Franks posthumously published Diary of a Young Girl, we learn of her desire for her voice to be heard, her self to be seen and acknowledged. WRITING TASK: You are going to write a narrative essay in which you describe your own experience regarding this topic. WHAT: Please write a narrative essay using the following prompt: Write about a defining moment in your life when you felt the power of your own voiceor didnt. HOW: DETAILS OF THE ASSIGNMENT 1. Length: Your essay must be at least 750 words, not counting your heading and title. Writing more words than that is fine; writing fewer than that is not Include a Word Count at the end of the essay (but before the Works Cited, if you have one) Use this word count tool: 2. Format: Your essay must be formatted in accordance with current, 9th edition MLA style. See the Purdue Owl MLA Formatting and Style Guide: ng_and_style_guide/mla_formatting_and_style_guide.html –In keeping with this, your paper must be double-spaced throughout, top to bottom. Essays must be no more than double-spaced, and single-spaced essays will not be read. –Your essay must have a double-spaced heading in the upper left corner of the first page: Name Class Professor name Due Date –Student surname + page number must appear in the upper right corner of every page Sources: This assignment does not require you to do any research or to reference sources, but doing research and using sources is fine and may be helpful. –If you reference sources in your essay, it must have a Works Cited page at the end, correctly listing all sources you have used in writing it.
