The impact of anonymous social media (specifically Fizz) on…

Each student will need to find a minimum of 4 scholarly sources about your topic, preferably from sociology, anthropology, or criminology journals or academic books. You will use these sources to write an annotated bibliography that summarizes the research problem, theoretical approach, methodology, and key findings of each source. The goal is to provide enough information that you do not need to re-read the article to use it as a source. These bibliographies will be used to construct your literature review. I recommend each student take a specific set of search terms or a specific area of literature relevant to your project. What is an acceptable scholarly source in this class? (Topic is: The impact of anonymous social media (specifically Fizz) on college student communication, behavior, and campus culture) 1. Peer-reviewed journals and books sources written and reviewed by experts in the fields of sociology, anthropology, or other social sciences. If it is not clear whether the source is peer-reviewed, check with me. 2. Certain federal and private research organizations may publish relevant research. 3. Most of your sources should be empirical studies (data is collected), and some should be qualitative research specifically. Theoretical sources (summarize and push theoretical debates) and review articles (summarize and analyze all major research on a topic) are acceptable, but should not be the only sources used. What is not an acceptable scholarly source? 1. Wikipedia, dictionary and encyclopedia websites, newspaper articles, and most other online sources (for the love of god, no A.I.). These may link to acceptable sources. 2. Textbooks, though these are great sources to point you toward acceptable sources. 3. Certain behavioral science sources (psychology, economics, family & consumer science, etc.) may be acceptable, but many are not appropriate. Check with me. Building your Annotated bibliography 1. Using your research proposal and concept map, identify the topics, key phrases, concepts, and other searchable terms that you will need to research. Divide up responsibilities among your group members to focus on specific important areas. 2. Provide a full reference for each source using ASA style. I will provided a guide for ASA style on Blackboard. 3. Underneath each separate reference, you will write a 1-3 paragraph annotation of the source (separate pages for each source recommended). Again, the goal is to provide the group member writing the literature review with enough detail that they do not need to read every source themselves. It may be best to use separate pages for each annotation. Your annotation should identify the following for EACH source: a. Summarize the overall argument of the source. b. Identify key concepts/theories that are used to help explain the research. c. Describe the research design, including: (1). A description of the sample or case study chosen; (2) the specific research techniques; (3) other relevant details. d. The major findings and conclusions of the research. e. Identify key quotes and include in-text citations with page numbers. f. How your project will use, build upon, or critique this research.
