Students will submit a best first draft of their title page, abstract, introduction, literature review, and references. Students will also submit their first draft to Turnitin by the beginning of class on this day.

The following guidelines should be followed, implementing appropriate APA (7th ed.) standards (make sure to use appropriate APA heading levels):

3. Introduction and Literature Review (6-8 pages)

The Introduction and Literature Review section is designed to interest your reader in your topic and proposal and provide some context for your project. In the Literature Review, you will summarize your review of the appropriate literature on your topic of choice. At the end of your introduction, include a tentative thesis to indicate to your reader that you are entering your project looking at your topic through a critical, analytic lens — this thesis should clearly state your intentions (e.g., “In this project, I will…” or “In this research project, I will investigate …”). A good formula for a Literature Review is context + problem/complication + purpose statement + research question(s)/hypotheses.

In addition, include the following elements:

• Introduction and presentation of your topic
• Discuss the principle concepts and models within the topic chosen.
• Describe the importance of researching your chosen topic to advancing the counseling profession.
• Explore the use of your research topic to improve counseling effectiveness (evidence-based practice).
• Research question(s)
• Provide your operational definitions regarding key concepts within your topic being addressed. Do not use dictionary definitions. Use definitions from peer reviewed articles (cite according to your APA Manual [7th ed.]). DO NOT WRITE IN STUDENT APA IT MUST BE PROFESIONAL APA.
