Overview:
A literature review is a descriptive summary of research on a topic that has previously been
studied. The purpose of a literature review is to inform readers of the significant knowledge
and ideas that have been established on a topic. Its purpose is to compare, contrast and/or
connect findings that were identified when reviewing researchers’ work.
Goal:
It is important for all nurses to have an understanding of the process of writing a thorough
literature review and the technology available to help patients. It is especially important for
nurse leaders and advance practice nurses to have an enhanced understanding of technology,
be able to speak to technology, and to articulate how the technology will benefit patients.
Assignment Description:
For this project, you will utilize available databases to identify 3/4 articles (recent within 3-6
yrs) on your chosen topic. You are asked to locate at least 3/4 scholarly, peer-reviewed articles
on your topic and write a 4 -5-page literature review on the articles you’ve selected.
Assignment End Product:
You will work in teams of 2 to write a short literature review, roughly 4-5 pages, on a topic of
your choice (think Technology/AI, wearable technology, or innovative technology such as
nanotechnology, or Google Glasses).
Directions:
1) Write an introduction informing the reader of the topic. 20 points
o Describe your search strategy including your decision process of inclusion and exclusion
criteria. Identify keywords/phrases used whether searching library resources or general
internet resources.
o What search engines were used, literature databases, etc.? Describe the results of your
search strategies e.g. # of hits, delimiters, use of Boolean, and so forth. Did you have
to focus/explode terms?
The reader should be able to retrace the steps you took to locate your references,
whether describing online internet sources or online peer-reviewed articles.
2) Write a detailed literature review of the 3-4 articles. 25 points

b. What were the purposes of the studies?
c. What populations were studied?
d. What tools were used?
e. What were the findings?
f. What level of evidence was identified?
3) Write a conclusion highlighting the main points of the paper. 5 points
