*** answer this for two students
What is Philosophy?
This week, I want you to think about what you expect to get out of this class. After doing the readings, imagine that a friend or family member has asked you why you are taking a philosophy class. They may be wondering what philosophy is, what it is good for, or why you would want to learn about it. In this discussion board, answer them by explaining what you’ve read from our first two readings.
Since you need to post two responses each week, make one of your posts play the devil’s advocate. Now YOU can be the inquisitive friend or family member who isn’t yet convinced that philosophy is worthwhile. Challenge one of your classmates to answer/defend the importance of philosophy.
Finally, what do you really think? Is philosophy worthwhile? Why or why not? (I promise I won’t mark you down for being honest! 😉
example 1
To me, philosophy is the study of thinking deeply about life, values, and important questions such as right and wrong, truth, and how we should live. It helps us understand different perspectives and teaches us how to think more critically instead of thinking automatically.I think philosophy is useful because it helps us make better decisions in everyday life. As a mother and a student, I often face situations where I need to solve problems, be fair, and understand others. Philosophy helps me slow down, ask questions, and think carefully before making choices.I believe philosophy is definitely worthwhile. It may not always give clear answers, but it teaches us how to think, communicate, and understand the world better. These skills are important in school, work, and family life.I look forward to learning everyones ideas this week!
Example 2
If I were to explain what Philosophy is at its core I would say that it is a kind of thinking that broadens your view through critical thinking. And this thinking allows for problems or misunderstandings to become fewer and smaller. But is is essentially growth of wisdom though thinking and opening your thinking to try and understand the problem or challenge. Do I think Philosophy is really worthwhile? I do think it is as critical thinking is a very important skill for other applications and challenges that others might face in their life.
