Students will write a research paper on Substance Abuse. You may narrow or expand the topic to focus on one of the following areas:

• Substance Abuse and Its Effects on Health
• Prevention of Substance Abuse
• Adolescence and Substance Abuse
• Prescription Medications and Their Effects
• Treatment and Recovery from Substance Abuse

Research Requirements

• The paper must include at least four (4) scholarly articles.
• Articles must be obtained from the following sources:
• Google Scholar
• Other approved academic databases

Note: Articles should be credible, academic, and preferably peer-reviewed.

Paper Format Requirements

Your paper must include the following sections:

1. Cover Page

• Title of the paper
• Your name
• Course name
• Professors name
• Date

1. Abstract

• One paragraph summary of the paper
• Include five (5) keywords at the bottom

1. Introduction

• Introduce the topic
• Explain why substance abuse is an important issue
• Present the purpose of the paper

1. Five Headings (Main Body Sections)

• You must include five separate headings
• Each heading must contain at least one to two well-developed paragraphs
• Headings may focus on:
• Health effects
• Adolescents and substance abuse
• Prescription drug misuse
• Prevention strategies
• Treatment and recovery

1. Conclusion

• Summarize the main points
• Reinforce the importance of addressing substance abuse

1. References Page

• Include all sources used in the paper
• Use proper APA format
• Minimum of four sources
