Sports Governance Structure

Assignment Instructions

You work for a sport organization and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has asked that you establish a workable governance structure for the company and to conduct a policy analysis. To be included are all things relevant to governance, including (but not limited to) a mission statement, organizational structure, responsibilities and duties, management objectives, etc. You should pick a team, sport or company that you are somewhat familiar with and may have some prior knowledge of.

Assignment Components:

  1. Select an organization from the sport industry (Several athletic organizations web addresses/URLs have been presented in SPMT450s Lessons).
  2. Share a brief description of the organization and present organizations mission statement.
  3. Develop an organizational structure (including descriptions of key officers and/or managers and detailed job descriptions), identify responsibilities and duties as well as management objectives.
  4. Include a chart detailing the organizational structure of the company.
  5. Identify the stakeholders [i.e., an individual (within or outside the identified organization) which has an interest in the organization or is impacted by the organizations business operations].
  6. Give an overall policy analysis. Include any of the following that may be applicable: political risk analysis, government restrictions, economic policies, and stakeholder analysis.
  7. Discuss the social and ethical issues your organization may face.
  8. Identify what other companies you work with, as well as your competitors (if applicable)
  9. Discuss whether your organization is well positioned for success. If not, discuss what needs to improve to enable success.

Assignment Requirements:

  • Create a Microsoft PowerPoint (PPT) or Microsoft Word Document. MS PowerPoint is recommended but you may complete this assignment as a MS Word document.
  • If submitting an MS PowerPoint file, the completed PPT should contain at least ten (10) slides excluding the Title, Table of Contents, and References slides, discussing this assignment. Cite at least five (5) literary publications to support information discussed within your paper. Course materials (e.g., assigned readings) cannot be counted towards the references requirement. In addition, each references in-text citation should be presented on the slide (or in Notes) where each literary source is mentioned (i.e., cited) within PPT. Use the Notes section on each slide for in-depth and detailed explanations of a slide’s content. Notes should be written such that someone could read it and make the presentation for you. Welcome the audience, introduce yourself, and speak directly to the audience (i.e., interns) throughout presentation. Do not write statements like, for this slide I would say, or this slide shows that . . . You need to write as you would present the information to the audience. Notes should be presented in text (i.e., words) and complete sentences. Vocal Notes (i.e., audio recordings) will not be accepted (i.e., reviewed).
  • Notes are placed on the same slide (i.e., beneath) information being presented pertaining to a specific area of the PPT. See “Click to add notes” at bottom of slide – Notes will be placed in this area. Suggestion – use MS PowerPoint “help” to review instructions for inserting “Notes” using your specific version of MS PowerPoint. is an example.
  • If submitting an MS Word file, compose an eight (8) page paper [minimum of 2000 words, excluding title and references page] discussing information regarding this assignment. Cite at least five (5) literary publications to support information discussed within your paper. Course materials (e.g., assigned readings) cannot be counted towards the references requirement.
  • Use clear examples such as charts and graphs to enhance your presentation or paper.
