Most students at community colleges, particularly first-generation students, are left pondering the expectations for better performance. Such pressure has been said to be fruitful in the intention. Nevertheless, they are bound to become stressed and anxious over time and, ultimately, burn out due to a lack of time to manage academic and family obligations. Burnout can manifest as emotional fatigue, disconnection, and poor school performance, all of which can be very difficult to cope with during the learning process.
This topic is necessary because community college students must balance multiple responsibilities, including employment, family, and education. Family pressure may also add to their distress and burn them out. This is important in my community, where learners from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds have a substantial impact on the learning environment. One approach to this problem is to develop a more supportive college environment that would help students reduce stress and improve their academic performance (Yu et al., 2021). This paper lays the foundation for family expectations and burnout, informing intervention and counseling approaches for students. Such efforts would eventually lead to a better, happier school life, resulting in success and joy later in life.
(Yu et al., 2021) explored the effects of family cohesion and adaptability on academic burnout among college students. The authors concluded that students whose families have a good emotional relationship and those who can adapt to stress show less burnout. More significantly, the literature found that peer support, positive psychological properties, resilience, and optimism mediated the interplay between family dynamics and burnout. The article explores the potential relevance of families and their effects on students, and offers practical suggestions to help families prevent burnout (Yu et al., 2021). Such findings imply that fostering a positive family atmosphere and student resilience can help mitigate the adverse effects of educational stress.
