Selecting and Creating Data Sets Lesson
This assignment begins the quantitative content of PA 556. An example of what this completed assignment will look like is at the bottom of the page.
The objective of the first assignment is to improve students’ knowledge of statistical software. The software we are going to read about could be used this semester. As you will learn, there are several excellent free statistics softwares that could be used to complete assignments.
In evaluating statistical software, you might have asked , “What does statistical analysis software do?” The following figure answers that question. If the procedures in the chart are familiar then that is probably because you have looked at the other statistics assignments for this semester.

The assignment wants you to get together with a statistical software and data set. Besides the statistical software on the list above, AcaStat and Winks are possibilities. The AcaStat student version is $10 . Both of these two statistical software have free demo versions that have been used for statistics assignments.
To complete the assignment you need to accomplish to tasks.
First, get access to a statistics program with a data spread sheet. All statistic programs enter data into a data spread sheet so this first requirement is not difficult. Basically, you need to chose a statistic program for you and get that program installed on your computer.
Second, you need to enter some data into the data spread sheet. By entering data, you are creating a data set. When you get data together with the programs spread sheet, this lets me know that you are comprehending data sets.

The Completed Assignment Could Be Like This. I. Discussion about how you chose a statistical program. II. Discussion about how you chose a data set. III. Discussion about possible hypotheses (independent variables causes dependent variable statements) that could be put together from your data set. IV. Image of how the data set appears on the computer screen loaded in to a statistics program. Figure One Data looks like this loaded into a statistics program. |
