Objectives: Evaluate the social influence of persons with disabilities. Evaluate media platforms for influence on the beliefs of persons with disabilities. This week, your written assignment will be in the form of a PowerPoint presentation. Be sure to include a title slide with your name. The goal is to find a social media influencer with a disability, visible or hidden, and analyze their social media page to answer the following questions: Give a general description of the influencers presence on social media. For example, how many follow the influencer? Do they have links to other social media sites? Do they respond to comments? And, other interesting information you find. How is the disability mentioned and/or displayed? Does the format used challenge societal norms on how we view disability? If so, how? Do you believe the influencer has an agenda and if yes, what is it? i.e., self-acceptance, disability reform, decreasing ableism, being an advocate for others, etc. Dedicate some time to reading through the comments. Are they mostly supportive or non-supportive? Are there “troll” comments? Expand on this information What hashtags did they use? Click on a hashtag of your choice. Describe what you see. What was the predominant tone indicator? Give an example. Here is a list of common tone indicators (opens in a new tab) in social media. Did you find their page to influence you? Describe why or why not. Provide a link to the page and screenshot, and add it to the PowerPoint Presentation. Each slide must include the following Well-developed and clearly articulates the point of the slide. Well-developed sentences, or bullet points, with correct spelling and proper grammar.
