Slide show for Exam 1

Your first exam is a narrated video presentation. Please feel free to chat with your classmates to get ideas on ways to do this assignment. PowerPoint has this feature, but so does Google. This is digital literacy 101!

Please address one (1) of the following four questions in a brief slide show, about 10-15 slides. Be sure to use as many visuals as possible. Figures, charts, photos. Lots of words on a slide doesn’t work well. You will use audio to narrate your work.

Do make sure that your slide show presents an ARGUMENT… the topics ask a question, so your work should not simply comprise description, but rather communicate a position. Don’t forget to include source citations, although you can do this at the end of the slide show.

1. Has Europe contributed sufficiently to NATO? The NATO alliance has been around a while. The treaty states that if a countrywere to invade a NATO member state, other members of NATO would be obliged to aid these countries militarily. After 9-11, Europe supported US activity in Afghanistan with troops. At the same time, some say Europe hasn’t done enough. Make your argument; yes or no.

2. Should the international community recognize Palestine as a state? What are the arguments for and against? According to international law, what are the requirements for statehood? How has the concept changed over time?

3. How do fragile states engage with the international system? Choose a state that might be labeled a “fragile” state. Don’t forget to identify characteristics of fragile state and bring in examples of these interactions. (This topic comes from Chapter 5) Choose question choice 1
