Treat a Skin Cancer Patient Assignment:
Background:
- You are working as a nurse (or medical technician) in an office that performs Mohs surgery.
- Your patient is a female, Caucasian with green eyes and blonde hair. (The photograph on the previous page may help you imagine your patient).
- She is under 40 years old and has basal cell carcinoma on the middle of her zygomatic (cheek) bone.
- She grew up in a town near the beach, and she had frequent sunburns during childhood.
- She is scheduled to have a Mohs surgery performed today in order to remove the basal cell carcinoma.
- Your job is to greet her, prepare her for the surgery, and schedule a follow up for her stitches to be removed.
Part 1:Write a summary of what you would say to greet your patient, briefly describe the Mohs surgery, and then schedule a follow up (as outlined below). You can use your Medical Terminology (Wingerd, 2019) text as well as the references to the Skin Cancer Foundation (2016) listed in the background information for this assignment.
- Use at least five medical terms found in your required readings from this module.
Part 2:Create a YouTube video of yourself interacting with the patient. Following the outline below, you can either read your summary from part one paying special attention to the pronunciations of medical terms. Otherwise, you can summarize what you wrote in part one using at least five medical terms from your required reading in this module.
- Specifically, pay attention to your tone of voice, body language, and the clarity of your speech. If you have never worked in the medical field, then please do not panic.

- Keep the length of your video to under 5 minutes
