Situational Analysis

Objectives

A situation analysis provides an overview of the state of a company’s products against the industry landscape. You must write a narrative outlining the market’s current state and how it may influence your ability as an advertiser to appeal to customers. The research should include the belief in customer needs, your client’s competitors’ appeal to customers, and what distinguishes your client’s products from others.

Format

  • Write a maximum five-page report in Times New Roman, double-spaced, using 1-inch margins.
  • Run spell check, proofread, and use proper grammar.

Required Sections

Include:

  • Company:
    • Outline your client’s product(s) or service(s)’ market position and key value proposition.
    • Articulate the existing marketing mix at a high level.
    • Provide secondary research/media scan to showcase the client’s reputation in the market.
  • Competitors:
    • Provide 2-3 rivals who compete for the same customer with a similar product or service.
    • Compare their competitive advantage to your clients and any issues.
  • Climate: Give an overview of social, political, or economic issues that may directly or indirectly affect the market.
