In Lesson 1 you studied definitions and characteristics of lifespan development, methods to research lifespan development, and the ethics involved in said research. In Lesson 2 you studied genetics, prenatal development, and the birthing process. In Lesson 3 you studied the physical development domain and sexuality of individuals from infancy through adolescence. In this lesson, you studied the cognitive developmental domain and relevant cognitive developmental theories from infancy through adolescence. The Signature Assignment is a culmination of Lessons 1-4 where you will apply and reflect on the topics studied. The length is approximately 750 to 1,500 words which uses APA style guidelines for the format. Each section should include the following headings and descriptions: Introduction Identify a career of interest to you in which understanding the concepts of lifespan development is important. If you currently work in your identified career area, describe your current job, your role, and the setting in which you work. If you are not currently working or working in the field, identify your future career or profession of choice, what job role you hope to have, and in what setting you would like to work. Describe the individuals with whom you work (or intend to work) and the clients the organization serves. For example, you may work in a pediatric dental clinic, and the clients are toddlers, children, and adolescents. Or you may work in an assisted living facility, and the clients are older adults. Lifespan Development: Reflect on what you learned in Lesson 1. Select one topic, concept, or idea from the lesson to describe further. Define and describe the concept chosen. Explain how you can/will apply the concept in your current or future practice. Give at last one example of how you can/will use the concept in service delivery to the clients specified in your introduction. Genetics and Prenatal Development: Reflect on what you learned in Lesson 2. Select one topic, concept, or idea from the lesson and describe it in detail. Explain how you can/will apply the concept in your current or future practice. Give at last one example of how you can/will use the concept in service delivery to the clients specified in your introduction. Physical Development: Reflect on what you learned in Lesson 3. Select one topic, concept, or idea from the lesson and describe it in detail. Explain how you can/will apply the concept in your current or future practice. Give at last one example of how you can/will use the concept in service delivery to the clients specified in your introduction. Cognitive Development: Use the information from Lesson 4. Compare Piaget’s and Vygotskys views on cognitive development. Include information about schema, assimilation, accommodation, and equilibrium. Discuss the characteristics and components of memory. Discuss methods for defining and assessing intelligence. Conclusion: Summarize your paper and reflect on any insights. Include examples that are real-world or realistic and/or data or evidence to support your insights. References: Be sure to include at least four sources that are appropriate for professional writing. (Do not use .com Web sites or Wikipedia. Use .edu or .gov sites or preferably scholarly, peer-reviewed articles.)
