Discussion Topic: Submit Module 4 Application DiscussionSubmit Module 4 Application Discussion

This discussion forum is meant to simulate the content and interactive nature of in-class discussions. To participate in this assignment, students must post an original thread

Students are required to submit one post (approximately 300 words) as an explanation of a construct from the assigned course readings (i.e., theory, topic, research outcome) as stated below by11:59pm Central Standard Time on THURSDAY. Initial posts submitted after this time will not receive credit.

For their posts, students should respond to the following prompts.

Suskie (2018, pp. 86-87) describes an article by Barr and Tagg (1995) that defines a new paradigm for education that shifts the focus from instruction to learning. Below is a table from their article that summarizes the old teaching-centered Instruction Paradigm to the new learning-centered Learning Paradigm. For this discussion, students should perform all of the following.

1. Critically review both paradigms (i.e., focus on the differences between them),

2. Select and reflect on one of your educational experiences (i.e., it could be a clear memory of how you were taught in elementary school, high school, or college),

3. Describe the educational experience you selected and compare it to the paradigms Barr and Tagg (1995) describe in their table. Explain which paradigm most closely fits your experience and explain why it fits that paradigm.

4. Reflect on what you learned from the experience you selected and describe how effective the educational experience was in preparing you for how you needed to use that information in your day-to-day life.

5. Explain what would have made the learning experience more effective for you. In your explanation, include at least one term or concept from Suskie’s characteristics of effective curricula; be sure to include an in text citation for the information you select.

6. Explain which paradigm will shape how you design your Assessment Application Project.

Barr, R. B., & Tagg, J. (1995). From teaching to learning: A new paradigm for undergraduate education. Change, 27(6), 12-25.

Initial posts should fully address the topic and integrate information from the Suskie text. No information in the post is to be quoted or copied directly from the source. All information should be properly paraphrased in the student’s own words and cited according to APA style.
