Assignment Instructions As you have learned throughout the course, scientific inquiry is key to the study of psychology and personality. Using research to develop theories and models provides psychologists with evidence-based results for understanding and predicting human behavior. In this assessment, you will conduct research and synthesize concepts you have learned in Weeks 5 and 6 to create a presentation in which you articulate the role of biology and environment on personality. Assessment Preparation Review the following scenario: You are a mental health professional who has been asked to prepare a brief presentation for an annual conference on mental health and well-being. The conference audience is comprised of social workers and mental health professionals who are eager to learn about personality development. You have decided to develop a presentation about biological and environmental factors that shape personality, using a public figure or someone important to you as an example to illustrate your ideas. Select a celebrity, politician, or someone important in your own life as the focus of your presentation and research details related to their life and personality. Consult your instructor if you need assistance in selecting an individual to research. Some examples of celebrities you might choose include: Athletes: Serena Williams, Michael Jordan, Simone Biles Academics: Albert Einstein, Temple Grandin Entertainers/artists: Peter Dinklage, Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey, Vincent Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo Complete the following for your selected individual: Research details about their background, key life events and achievements. Identify key personality traits. Consider which personality theories may be most applicable to their personality development. Consider how biological factors, experiences, and environment factors may have shaped their personality. Research how the interplay of biological and social/environmental factors is evident in their personality. Review Ch. 14, Genes, Brains, and Biological Bases of Personality and Its Development, of your textbook, Personality: Theory and Research. This chapter presents concepts related to epigenetics and cultural-evolutionary psychology. Assessment Deliverable Create an 8- to 10-slide presentation in which you explain biological and environmental factors that have influenced the personality development of your selected individual. Incorporate details from the summary you wrote in Week 5. Address the following in your presentation: Briefly summarize the selected individual, including the following details as applicable: Their background, key life events, and achievements Their temperament and how that temperament is relevant to their behavior Challenging or adverse experiences that are critical to their life history Briefly summarize the individuals personality type or dominant personality traits (e.g., introvert/extrovert, interdependent/independent).
