Scientific explanations and scientific method

Prepare Textbook: Carey, S. S. (2012). A beginner’s guide to scientific method (4th ed.). Wadsworth, Cengage Learning. Chapter 3: Explanation Prompt Answer the following Show That You Know questions for this unit: Describe scientific explanations in detail. How do they relate to scientific hypotheses and scientific theories? How does the observation that two sets of variables are correlated differ from the inference that they are related as cause and effect? Fully describe the following types of explanation (a full description requires at least four sentences): a) Cause and effect b) Causal mechanism c) Underlying processes d) Laws e) Function Describe Occam’s Razor in detail and discuss how it applies to competing explanations. Important! The textbook readings are the primary sources for these questions, but you must also use internet research. In addition to the course textbooks, you must use at least one credible reference source found on the internet for each question response. Do not use quotations. Paraphrase and cite appropriately. Do not use sources such as Wikipedia, YouTube, or blogs, as they are not credible enough for college-level scholarly work. Procedure In APA format, write 250 words per question. Label each question. You may repeat the question and follow it with your response. The words of the question do not count toward the required 250.
