Read the article, “” This article explores how California is attempting to improve teen mental health by delaying school start times and allowing teens to sleep later. Write a rhetorical analysis of this article. Your analysis should do the following:
1. Introduce the essay (Title, author) and then give a summary of the main ideas of the essay. This summary should include the essay’s purpose and intended audience.
2. Analyze HOW the author attempts to achieve his purpose. What rhetorical techniques does he/she use to help support his argument. You may consider techniques like organization, logos, ethos, pathos, kairos, assumptions, voice. You should analyze at LEAST TWO rhetorical features.
3. Evaluate whether or not the author achieved his/her purpose. Was the argument balanced and effective enough to convince the reader that it is valid. Don’t just state that the argument was/wasn’t effective. Support your evaluation with evidence from the essay.
You will find yourself referring to the essay throughout your summary, analysis and evaluation. You can quote directly, but paraphrasing the essay is also effective. Make sure you cite the essay at the end of your analysis using APA format.
