TW Project 1 Rhetorical Analysis Memo
Through this assignment, you will achieve the following objectives:
- Master the Memo Genre: Develop expertise in the memorandum technical writing genre.
- Identify and Locate a technical document such as a correspondence, job application material, technical guide, proposal, technical report, or technical description. The document should be at least one MS Word page in length. For longer documents, concentrate on a particular section.
- Critically Examine the chosen document to evaluate how its elements reflect the characteristics of technical writing: honesty, accuracy, clarity, comprehensiveness, conciseness, accessibility, professional appearance, conciseness, and correctness, addressing a specific audience, helping users perform a task, answer a specific question, or make a decision, reflecting an organization’s goals and culture, being collaboratively written, and/or consisting of words, images, or both.
- Evaluate the document’s effectiveness in fulfilling its intended purpose.
Writing Instructions
Create a memo addressed to me that conducts a comprehensive analysis of your selected document.
Your memo should:
- Integrate and articulate the analysis of the aspects listed above.
- Provide a cohesive, insightful analysis rather than a simple enumeration of points.
- Conclude with your judgment on the documents effectiveness in achieving its intended goal.
Writing Tips:
- Adhere to the memo format as discussed in Lesson 1.
- Use detailed examples to demonstrate your analysis (show, don’t tell principle).
- Ensure your memo exemplifies the characteristics of effective technical writing.
Submission Requirements
- Length: 2-3 single-spaced pages. Focus on being concise and avoid excessive wording.
- Format: Use a formatting style that is effective and adheres to the memo genre and design principles.
- Include: Provide a link to the technical document you are analyzing at the end of your memo.
