Part 1: Research Proposal (300400 words)
In a short proposal, introduce the topic youve chosen for your research paper. Your proposal should include:
- Working Title A clear and descriptive title for your project.
- Topic Explanation What is your general topic, and why does it interest you?
- Research Question State the focused, arguable question you plan to answer in your essay.
- Purpose and Audience What do you hope your reader will learn or understand? Who needs to hear this argument?
- Preliminary Sources List at least 23 credible sources youve already located in a library database or other reliable collection (MLA citation format).
Remember: Your proposal and outline are not set in stone. As you continue your research, your question or thesis may shiftand thats normal. This assignment gives you a strong starting point to build from.
Part 2: Outline
Create a working outline of your essay. Your outline should include:
- Introduction
- Hook, background, and working thesis statement.
- Body Paragraphs (at least 3 main points)
- Topic sentence for each main idea.
- Notes on supporting evidence (from your preliminary sources).
- Potential counterargument (if applicable).
- Conclusion
- How you will wrap up your argument and leave the reader with something to think about.
