Research Problem, Statement and Question

Part 1

Discuss the following :

  • How does your research problem shape your purpose statement and research questions?
  • What challenges have you encountered in ensuring alignment between your research design (quantitative or qualitative) and your research questions?
  • Provide one example from your work-in-progress to illustrate this alignment or a specific challenge you are addressing.

Include references to specific sections from the guides to support your response (e.g., aligning purpose and design, refining questions to match your design).

Part 2

Consider the progress you have made on your research project or dissertation.

Discuss the following :

  • Is the topic still one you are considering for your research project or dissertation? yes
  • If yes, what actionable steps will you take once this course ends to further your understanding of the topic and to develop your ideas?
  • If you are considering a different topic, what actionable steps will you take to select a new topic? Not considering a new one

Part 3

As a scholar, practitioner, and leader in research design, you must evaluate the research topic, research triad, research method, and design alignment of the proposed study to an effective research design.

Assessment Deliverable

Using the Research Outline you completed in Weeks 5-7 as a foundation, create a 10- to 12-slide PowerPoint presentation that communicates your study elements clearly. Include speaker notes for each slide that detail your reasoning and approach. Your presentation should include the following:

Problem Statement:

  • Clearly state the issue being addressed, supported by recent scholarly citations.
  • Explain the context and relevance of the problem.

Purpose Statement:

  • Articulate the study’s goals, including the methodology (qualitative or quantitative) and research design.
  • Ensure it aligns with the problem statement.

Research Questions and Hypotheses:

  • For Qualitative Studies: Develop 2 open-ended, exploratory research questions.
  • For Quantitative Studies: Develop at least 1 measurable research question with at least one set of hypotheses (null and alternatives).

Theoretical or Conceptual Framework:

  • Identify the theoretical or conceptual framework guiding your study.
  • Explain how this framework aligns with your problem, purpose, and research design.

Significance of the Study:

  • Explain why your study is essential.
  • Describe the implications of your research for the SPL and degree program.

Reflection Slide:

  • Discuss the challenges you encountered in ensuring alignment among the problem, purpose, research questions, and framework.
  • Reflect on how feedback and self-assessment shaped your approach.
