Overview
One of the most important ministry opportunities chaplains have is caring for the fallen. In fact, chaplains may have greater opportunity than pastors to provide care for those who have died, their comrades, and families. This assignment will provide the chaplain student the opportunity to glean first-hand insights from a funeral director about ministry in death and the opportunity to be around death in a funeral home.
Instructions
You will write a 1600 to 1800-word Research Paper based on a face to face interview with a funeral home director. You will glean first-hand insights concerning the dead and ministering to those who have suffered the death of a loved one. This interview should take place at the funeral home. It is important for you to get the sense of what it is to be around death. Write from a biblical worldview utilizing at least ten (10) scripture references. Your primary source will be the funeral director you interview, but also make sure you reference assigned course materials, both textbook and videos) in your implementation comments.
Focus on the following questions:
1. What is the name of the Funeral Director you interviewed, date, place, and manner of interview? (Note: In person interviews will receive more points. Face to face electronic interviews are acceptable. Last resort should be an audio only interview. Written correspondence interview will not be accepted).
2. How are the dead treated with dignity?
3. What is done to prepare the body for a funeral?
4. What if the body is not intact?
5. How do religious concerns affect the way the work is done?
6. How is the family treated, cared for, and ministered to?
7. What additional questions do you have for the funeral director?
8. What recommendations does the funeral director have to share with you as a chaplain?
9. What are the important take aways for you?
10. How will you implement insights gleaned?
This research paper will be primarily judged on the coherence of the first-hand research gleaned and conclusions presented. It will also be evaluated on other objective criteria. The essay must demonstrate a graduate-level use of the English language. This assignment requires inquisitive thinking, logical progression of thought, appropriate organization, and personal application. In addition, you must meet the following standards of style and form:
- Adhere to current Turabian format.
- Use 1 margins on all 4 sides.
- Double-space your text.
- Use 12-point Times New Roman font.
- Indent paragraphs at 5 spaces (0.6).
- Do not include extra blank lines between paragraphs.
- Use and italicize section headings.
- Include page numbers.
- Include a title page with your name, student ID number, course number/section, instructors name, and date. The title page does not count toward the required word count.
- Include a contents page, an Introduction with a thesis sentence, a body with subheadings, footnotes, a conclusion, and a bibliography.
