Research Brief Introduction & Sample Studies

Guidelines

Please read the first.

You will write a persuasive and evidence-based introduction for your research brief. (This introduction will ideally be revised and later serve as the introduction portion of your final Research Brief assignment, later.)

The introduction should make a clear case for why your specific topic is important. All claims must be backed with evidence, likely from secondary sources. The text should provide a clear argument about who can use the findings from the research brief and how they might apply them.

In addition to the introductory text, you will also:

• Provide citations for 3 primary communication research studies you plan on reading and evaluating for your literature review. Each citation must be formatted correctly according to APA standards.
• Copy-and-paste the abstract from each of the 3 studies, to help me verify that your selections are viable for your chosen topic.
• Provide a full References page that accounts for all of the evidence you cited for your introductory text, as well as the 3 primary communication research studies you’ve selected for your upcoming Literature Review.

It is very important that you review the before starting this assignment. The introduction portion of the paper encompasses all the text that appears underneath the title of the paper and before the Literature Review heading. For this assignment, you are only writing this introductory text. Please be reminded that evidence for the introduction can come from multiple types of sources; you do not need to rely on only primary research studies for this section. In fact, it is more likely that secondary research may be helpful here. (Once you transition into the Literature Review portion of the paper later in the semester, you will be restricted to primary research studies only.)
