Reflective Response Assignments (25 points each)
Students will complete a short (approximately 4 page) reflective essays examining oppression based on readings, documentaries, and participation in campus/community events. Students should offer a crucial examination and reflection of each topic, supported with literature (readings and content from class).
- Reflective Response 2 Examining the social construction of gender, patriarchy, & sexism
Submission should include the following:
- Reflective Overview:
- Describe the social construction of the issues, historical analysis of the issue, and the impact of policies and practices on ethnic and racial groups.
- Impact of Personal Identity
- Discuss how your personal identity and experiences interact with the construct. Consider the reciprocal relationship between the construct and your views, experiences, interactions, and interventions on a personal and professional level.
- Reflect on any biases or assumptions you may have identified about yourself related to this construct.
- Interconnections and systemic implications
- Describe how this may shape systemic inequities.
- Analyze how the social construct may interconnect with other identities or personal experiences.
- Action and Advocacy
- Propose specific actions you can take as a practicing social worker that may address and challenge the social construct at the micro, mezzo, and macro levels of practice.
- Describe how your understanding of the construct will guide your approach to promoting social justice and equality.
