Background Statement

I am an Asian student originally from Kazakhstan, and my journey to Canada has been both transformative and inspiring. Growing up in Kazakhstan, I was raised in a culture that values resilience, respect, and strong community ties. Moving across the world to study at the University of Victoria was a significant step outside of my comfort zone academically, culturally, and personally.

One of the most memorable moments in my journey was my very first day on campus at the University of Victoria. I vividly remember being struck by how genuinely kind and welcoming everyone was. Professors, staff, and fellow students were not only polite, but openly supportive and encouraging. This left a deep impression on me. Coming from a completely different cultural and educational environment, I felt both challenged and inspired. That experience strengthened my desire to grow, contribute, and become someone who also creates a positive impact in diverse environments.
