Project Assignment

For this assignment, students should review the Texas Constitution and read Chapter 8 in the textbook. Obviously, all the questions below refer to Texas officials.

This assignment is worth 25 points. The deadline to participate in this assignment is 11 pm TUESDAY March 17. Support some analysis with facts/sources. After answering the questions below in this initial post, students should reply to three classmates.

1. According to the concept, Separation of Powers, what is the main job of the Texas Governor?
2. How long is one term of office for the Texas governor? Does the governor have a term limit? Explain in detail your answer.
3. Name the official who becomes governor in the event of a gubernatorial vacancy during a term of office. How is that state official elected? Explain.
4. Name the next election year for the States Executive Officers (including the governor). List the qualifications to be Governor.
5. Is the State Secretary of State appointed or elected by the people? Check out the role of the TX Secretary of State and the different areas in which this position is involved. Explain how you are directly affected by one of those areas of power.
6. Who is Commander-in-Chief of the states militia? Are there any conditions under which the Governor would not be the Commander-in-Chief of the states militia? Explain.
7. What vote of the state legislature is required to override a gubernatorial veto? How does this differ from the vote required to pass a bill in the legislature? Explain.
8. Does the Governor have the power to pardon crimes against the state? Explain how this works in Texas.

9. While doing this assignment, what is one of the issues that surprised you? Why? Explain.

10. Finally, what is one question you have about the material used for this assignment? Explain.
