Problems in Journalism

Discuss how the audience segmentation and politicization of journalism, namely in Cable news, has had real-world consequences in everyday discourse. In your response, also consider how the cable news industry and digital shift have affected the news product and the industry overall. Has the pressure of keeping up with the pace of never-ending news cycle exacerbated by cable news affected the way local news is produced? How has the 24 hour news cycle blurred the lines between journalism and commentary? Should the contributors of commentary with no journalistic training be beholden to the same ethics and standards of truth as trained journalists? You are allowed to use your textbook as one source. The textbook is Issues in Contemporary American Journalism Hans Schmidt. Please use at least three additional sources including, but not limited to, scholarly research articles, research from platforms that monitor the industry, commentary from veteran journalists about the state of the industry, etc. Your paper should be 10-12 pages, double spaced, 12 point font.
