Pick two documents from the same week that have been assigned since Week one of the class. Answer the following questions in relation to the documents:

  1. Answer all of the questions that are found at the end of the document in the E-Companion reader.
  2. Who, what, when, where: Who is the author or authors. Do not simply give a name, give context about who this person was and what was happening in their lives at the time of the document. For example if you choose The Code of Hammurabi, consider what date the Code was completed, how far into his reign was this? Was he at war with anyone at the time, was his empire at peace? Also, If you choose a document that has an unknown author, like the Epic of Gilgamesh, contextualize the document in terms of the probable date of completion with what was happening in Mesopotamia at this time?
  3. What role did the document play in the historical development of western civilizations? For example, if you chose the Book of Exodus, you would want to consider the role that the development of monotheism had on western development.
