prices and inflation

Develop Your Presentation

  • Prepare Your PowerPoint Slides

Note: Each team represents one sector of the economy (Households, Business, Government, Housing, or Financial). However, all teams must begin with an assessment of the overall U.S. macroeconomy, not just your assigned sector.

Your presentation should include three components:

  1. An analysis of current economy-wide macroeconomic conditions in the U.S. (as of the day of the presentation). This section must focus on the aggregate U.S. economy, not on your assigned sector. As a result, this portion of the presentation should look broadly similar across teams. This section should include economy-wide data on:
  2. Real economic activity
  3. Prices and inflation
  4. Labor market conditions
  5. An analysis of the current state of your assigned sector (as of the day of the presentation).
  6. A monetary policy recommendation directed at the overall U.S. economy, not at your sector alone. Your recommendation should encompass both traditional tools and newer approaches as warranted; supporting reasons/data for your recommendations. You may reference relevant academic research or policy papers to support your arguments.
  • Prepare a Written Script

Having a well-prepared written script can greatly enhance the caliber of your presentation. With prearranged comments, there’s no need to concern yourself about omissions or imprecise wording. Additionally, this approach enables you to make optimal use of your allotted time.

Submission & Presentation

  • Submit Preliminary Report (The team leader is responsible for emailing all documents to the instructor. Please cc all team members in the email.)

The preliminary report describes your team’s progress. It should form the basis of your final submission. No contribution would result in no allocation of points. Late submissions will not be accepted for any reason!
