Options/Ideas
Creating a Report Card: Research a common food additive or large scale commercial industry (ex. agriculture, fashion, parts of the food system, etc.) in our country. Then use that information to grade it and produce a visual report cade. Aim to include the following in your report card:
- What is did you research?
- For a food additive: why is it commonly used in foods (appearance, flavor, shelf life, texture)?
- For an industry: how does it industry contribute to pollution, climate change, or environmental issues?
- Explain how what you researched effects either human health or an ecosystem.
- What happens in the body when this additive is consumed? Are there known effects on digestion, cell processes, or mental health?
- What resources (land, water, energy) does the industry rely on the most, and are they renewable? Who is affected by this industrys environmental impactworkers, local communities, global climate?
- How can consumers or individuals make more informed choices related to what you researched?
- Use at least one chart or statistic to support your report card. Include ways to avoid the additive or support alternative industries if harmful.
Myth Busting Internet Claims: Research common claims about either health and wellness trends on social media, or climate change and the environment that are incorrect and include the following:
- What is the claim or myth you are investigating?
- Who is making this claim and where did you hear or see it? Who might be promoting or profiting from this trend (companies, influencers)?

- What ecosystem did you choose, and where is it located?
- Describe 5 different important species in that ecosystem. Include at least one example relationship between two of the species.
- What human activities are affecting this ecosystem? How is climate change having an effect on the species there?
- What efforts are being made to protect or restore this ecosystem?
