Instructions
Based on the research question and specific aims drafted in the “Module 3 PICOT Question, Hypothesis, and Aims” assignment, identify 10-15 research publications that help provide the context to what is known and lacking about your topic.
- Sources should be peer-reviewed and published within the last 5 years unless seen as gold standard/historical publications.
- Use search engines such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and the YC library to conduct your search.
- Be sure to synthesize all articles for relevance, key findings, related measurements, methodology, and quality.
- As a general rule, you will need to provide support (i.e., citation) for anything that is not general knowledge.
Format
- Use the prior Research Proposal document you created in the “Module 3 PICOT Question, Hypothesis, and Aims” assignment. Be sure to include all prior submitted sections with necessary edits.
- Write 5 6 paragraphs:
- Paragraph 1 Outline the problem as it relates to your PICOT question.
- Paragraphs 2-3 Present the available knowledge in a fluid fashion.
- Paragraphs 4-5 Examine limitations and gaps in existing publications.
- Paragraph 6 Articulate how your research question is positioned to fill in the gaps and the importance of conducting said research.
Note: the above outline is a general recommendation, not a requirement. However, this section will be approximately 2-3 pages double-spaced once completed.
- Include in-text citations throughout
- Use clear, academic language with a scientific tone.
- Avoid the use of first-person language.
Within research, direct quotations are not typically seen. Therefore, you are expected to synthesize the articles, paraphrase the information as it relates to your proposal and cite according to APA format.
