Phenomenon of Interest in Advanced Nursing Practice

Purpose: To critically examine a POI through philosophical perspectives and Carpers Patterns of Knowing. Aligned Course Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) SLO 1. Critically analyze and synthesize the scientific and theoretical foundations that underpin advanced nursing practice and guide clinical judgment. SLO 2. Integrate and apply nursing science with biophysical, psychosocial, ethical, philosophical, and social sciences to inform evidence-based, person-centered, and population-focused care. SLO 6. Demonstrate scholarly inquiry, reflective practice, and leadership capacity to advance the nursing profession through lifelong learning and system-level improvement. Assessment Learning Objectives: By completing this paper, the student will be able to: Clearly articulate a clinically relevant Phenomenon of Interest (POI) grounded in advanced nursing practice. Analyze philosophical assumptions (ontology, epistemology, axiology) underlying the selected POI. Synthesize nursing and interdisciplinary philosophical perspectives to support person-centered and population-focused care. Demonstrate scholarly inquiry through coherent argumentation and use of foundational nursing science literature. Instructions: 1. Introduce your POI and conclude the introductory paragraph with a thesis statement. 2. Describe your POI, setting, and population. 3. Discuss the significance of your POI to your specialty and its impact on U.S. healthcare. 4. Differentiate Analytical and Continental philosophical viewpoints, identify your preference, and explain its influence on evaluating data for your POI. 5. Describe the value of the alternative viewpoint and the advantages of incorporating both perspectives. 6. Apply Carpers four patterns of knowing to your POI with examples. 7. Conclude with a summary of insights. Please review the video instructions for this paper in the Module. Specific requirements are detailed in the rubric. All assignments are to be submitted electronically within the course. Because the faculty receives many of the same assignments, a file naming format is established for all student submissions.
