Pharmacology In Action – Active Learning Assignment

MY PROTOTYPE DRUG IS PENICILLIN. MUST USE PENICILLIN

Be prepared to present a client/ case for the Prototype drug chosen. The client/ case may be: a family member, a clinical patient, a neighbor, a news story, a social media case, a fictional person from a medical television series etc. etc. Present the case to the class. Using SBAR format, tell the situation and background surrounding the use of the medication in the case you are discussing. Be creative. Make it interesting— Bring the Drug and Client/Case to Life!!!. Discuss the following in your presentation:

  1. What class does the medication belong to? Is this the is the pharmacological or Therapeutic class?
  2. What is the drug indication for this situation? What are other uses for the medication?
  3. What is the expected Therapeutic Response for this medication? Use your nursing judgement and discuss whether the therapeutic response is being met for your pt? Explain Why or why not? (i.e. nonadherence, inadequate dose, nontherapeutic lab levels, experiencing SE/AE etc.). Incorporate your understanding of the MOA in your answer.
  4. Discuss YOUR CLIENT’s response to the medication. Include in your discussion what safety monitoring, nursing considerations or administration alerts should the RN be aware of when safely administering the medication? Include any BBW in your discussion.
  5. Be sure to thoroughly discuss the education or follow up that is needed for a client on this medication. Did your client receive the proper education when the med was started? Tell us Why/ why not? How did education or lack of, impact your clients response to therapy?
