Persuasion

For your written assignment, you will complete an experiential reflection activity where you will be the target of persuasion by a professional salesperson. The goal is to analyze your experience critically. Follow these steps: 1. Identify a Situation: Choose a specific scenario in which you expect to encounter a person or people using persuasive techniques. This could be a sales pitch at a store, a fundraising event, or any situation where you find that persuasion is happening. Make sure you choose a situation that is safe. 2. Engage in the Experience: Put yourself in the situation you identified. Do NOT put yourself in any dangerous situations! During this persuasion encounter, behave as naturally as possible. 3. Write an Analytical Reflection Paper: After the experience, write a reflective essay that analyzes the following: The persuasive techniques used by the salesperson or expert. What happened? What were you doing during the encounter? Remember to include APA citations in your analysis Your emotional and cognitive responses during the interaction. How did you react/feel? What were you thinking during the encounter? The effectiveness of the persuasion tactics employed. Were they convincing? If so, how? Why? Any insights gained about your own susceptibility to persuasion and the broader implications for understanding persuasion in everyday life. Were YOU convinced? How easy was it to persuade you? Your written assignment should be NO MORE than 4-5 pages (double-spaced, Times New Roman 12-point font, 1-inch margins), not including the reference page. Use APA citations with a reference section that includes your textbook and at least ONE other valid resource, such as another textbook, a peer-reviewed journal article, or a Psychology Today article. Please do NOT cite Wikipedia as it is open to editing by anyone and so, not considered a valid resource for academic writing. Grammar and Spelling Correct all spelling and grammar errors before you submit your file or you will lose points. Deductions ranging from 5 to 30 points will be taken for excessive grammar and spelling errors. Use of AI for improving grammar, spelling, and style is acceptable. Better yet, use the (?)HELP link at the bottom left of your screen to send a first draft to the Psychology tutors at UpSwing, the HCC online tutoring service. (You do not need to send a copy to the English Dept. tutor. That will be done by the Psychology Dept. tutor.)
