Assignment Instructions This week, you learned about the five-factor approach to understanding personality. Applying this model in the workplace can be beneficial. For example, as an employee, you can identify traits that are helpful or challenging to your success and communication with others. As a leader, you can recognize personality traits in the people you manage and leverage diverse personalities for more effective work outcomes. In this assessment, you will explore and describe your personality based on a well-known, modern research trait theory: the five-factor model of personality (also known as the Big Five personality traits). Additionally, you will consider how to use your personality traits to guide your interactions in the workplace. Assessment Preparation Review the following scenario: Your employer has invited you to apply for a new role as a team supervisor at the organization you work for. As part of the application process, you must take the Big Five test and write a personal statement in which you explain how and why you are a good fit for the supervisory role, based on the results of the test. Take the Big Five Test. This test is a tool used to understand various aspects of a persons personality in 5 domains: extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, neuroticism, and openness to experience. Completing the test will help you understand your personality strengths and identify areas for growth. You will use your test results to complete this assessment. Assessment Deliverable Write a 700- to 1,050-word personal statement in which you explore the role of personality in emotional and behavioral interactions. Include the following headings and information in your personal statement: Introduction Summarize your Big Five profile. What did the test results reveal about your personality? Past Employment Reflection Describe how your Big Five profile can explain your employment history or career development. Future Employment Reflection Describe how you might use your understanding of your Big Five profile to manage your emotions and behaviors in the supervisory role. Explain how you might use your understanding of your Big Five profile to build relationships and rapport with people you work with (e.g., stakeholders, colleagues, other supervisors, supervisees, customers/clients). Cite at least 2 scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook, according to APA formatting and guidelines.
