Part 2 – Strike Simulation Analysis

Write a paper (1,600-1,800 words) in which you address the following:

  1. Upon the completion of the simulation, refer to the “Characteristics of High-Performing Teams” in the Topic 5 textbook readings. Use any four of the eight attributes of a highly effective team to analyze whether the team in the simulation was effective.
  2. Refer to the textbook readings to review each of the five stages of group formation. Explain how each of the five stages were evident in the simulation team’s collective experience (not individually) as you worked through the simulation. Provide a justification in your response.
  3. Describe the importance of effective communication in organizations and evaluate whether communication was effective for the team in the simulation. Using the textbook, justify your answer by describing any of the five barriers to communication (e.g., physical, gender) that occurred or were averted as well as the presence or absence of the four skills of communication competence (e.g., nonverbal, empathy).
  4. Review the 10 “Common Causes of Workplace Conflict” described in the textbook. Explain how any two of the 10 causes of conflict were evident or averted in the simulation team’s process and the problems or potential problems associated with each.
  5. Building upon the two “Common Causes of Workplace Conflict” you addressed in question 4, evaluate whether the causes of conflict resulted in functional or dysfunctional conflict.
  6. Based on the simulation team’s conflict you observed, which one of the five common conflict-handing styles discussed in the textbook would have been the most appropriate to use. Justify your response as to why this is the most realistic conflict handling style given the existing or potential team dynamics and process constraints.
  7. Describe three motivational theories/strategies the team in the simulation could have been motivated by. Apply at least one suggestion from each of the motivational theories/strategies (i.e., content/needs theories, process theories, and reinforcement strategies) to address three motivational needs experienced in the playing of the simulation.
