Overview
According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2021), Advanced Practice Nursing Students should be able to critique their personal and professional practices in the context of nursing’s core values, analyze the impact of structural and cultural influences on nursing’s professional identity, and articulate their professional identity to other interprofessional team members and the public. The purpose of the Philosophy of Nursing paper is to provide an opportunity to explore, clarify, and explain a personal belief system as it relates to your future APRN role.
For this paper, use a minimum of 2 scholarly resources that are 5 years old or less (at least 1 must be a journal article). You may use textbooks and the following approved websites in addition to the required journal articles: Nursing Theory (nursing-theory.org), American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Organization for Nursing Leadership, and American Association of Critical Care Nurses, professional State Board of Nursing sites (from any state), professional state government sites. Any other sites must be approved by the faculty before use.

- Include the following in the paper (See the – APA page regarding APA expectations for this paper. See the APA manual for formatting guidance):

- Page numbers
- You do not need an abstract
- Body of the paper
- A brief introduction that articulates the purpose of your paper
- Philosophy of Caring: explain your philosophy of caring (support with evidence/sources that define caring)
- Philosophy of Health and Illness: explain your philosophy of health and illness (support with evidence/sources that define health and illness)
- A conclusion that explains the relationship between your philosophy of caring, health, and illness, and your future role (cite sources)
- APA formatted reference page with APA formatted references
- You are permitted to use first-person verbiage (I, me, mine, my) only when referring to your personal opinion or a personal experience. Be mindful that opinions should be further supported by evidence throughout the course.
- You are not permitted to use second-person verbiage (you, your, we, us, our) at all.
- An APA paper template is provided in the Format for Assignments module – APA page for your convenience. If you use it, please type directly into it to hold the formatting. If you copy/paste, it will likely erase the correct APA formatting, and you may need to go back and ensure that APA formatting is still present.
2. Paper should be a maximum of 4 double-spaced pages (not including the title page or reference page).
3. No more than 1 short direct quote may be used in the paper (format & cite it per APA using page numbers in the citation)
4. Must have a TurnItIn score of less than 15% by the due date and time for faculty to accept and grade it. Reference the % listed, NOT the tag color. Late points will apply per the syllabus for submissions that do not have a TurnItIn score of less than 15% at the due date/time.
