A. Alcoholics Anonymous/12 step Objectives:
Upon completion of this assignment, the student will be able to:
1. Identify the purpose of the 12 Step Program approach in the area of
addiction.
2. Compare and contrast the 12 Step Model approach to two different
addiction populations.
3. Attend and observe an A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous), and
N.A. (Narcotics Anonymous), or O.A. (Overeaters Anonymous), or
G.A. (Gamblers Anonymous) meeting. Guidelines provided below.

Guidelines:
1. Locate and attend 2 meetings. One must be Alcohol related the other one of your choice. (Must attend two different types of meetings)
2. Dress is casual, no badges or notebooks. Introduce yourself to the group facilitator and the purpose of your attendance. Reassure the facilitator that everything will be kept confidential. The speaker is an A.A. member. A sponsor is an A.A. member who has completed the 12- step program. Birthdays are 365 days of continuous sobriety. Do not put money in the basket. This is for A.A. members only.
3. Write a summary contrasting the two different meetings using APA format. The summary should not be longer than two pages of content.
4. The summary should cite one peer reviewed article from a professional /nursing journal. Address the following questions in your summary.
A. The date, location, and type of meetings you attended.
B. The purpose of the meeting.
C. How were the meetings structured?
D. How were the meetings similar? How did they differ from one another?
E. How was it helpful to the patients recovery?
F. What did you learn and how will you apply this information to the clinical area?
