Module 4 DQ Race Relations

In simple and plain English answer the questions below in a meaningful way. It must be in a minimum of 300 words, free of plagiarism and ai detection, with in-text citations . The textbook for this class is Diller, J.V. (2018). Cultural Diversity: A Primer for the Human Services (6th ed). Cengage Learning. Chapters 8 & 13. A little about me and my background. (I am a black woman who grew up in Brooklyn, NY in Bedfordstuyvesant. Born in 71 and lived in a predominately black neighborhood. Describing my childhood, it would be exactly like Spike Lees movie Crooklyn. I was not raised excluding people by race. Everyone was just either my peers or adults. The only time I saw people of different races was in school, my teachers or in church, the priests and other clergy and the statues of saints. I am Roman Catholic.) I joined the NAVY when I turned 17 and while going to other states and countries that is when I really had a first hand access to racism. Even when encountering Africans in other countries, they would always ask me what my race was and whenever I said black, they would turn their nose up at me. In my country I received racist comments and treatment and in other countries the same. This is the main reason I do not like people considering me African American but just Black.

Over the past few years it seems that we have started to take steps backward in race relations in our country, especially between whites and African Americans. As you prepare to move into a Human Services career, understanding the factors that have contributed to this will be vital in successfully working with your diverse clientele. After reading your text this week discuss the following:

  • With the understanding you have gained in your readings, discuss the development of the Black Lives Matters movement.
  • Along this same line of thought what explanations can you discuss that would account for the discrepancies between black and white measures of well-being?
  • What role does the church play in the African American culture in our country today?
  • And in what ways do the traditional and neo-Pentecostal black churches differ? In what ways are they similar?
