You will post your answers to this week’s questions (see below) to the discussion board by Thursday 2/12 at 11:59pm, and respond to at least5 posts from your classmates by Sunday 2/15 at 11:59pm.
Guidelines for posts:
For your own original posts, you will need to write at least 250 words per question. You should make sure to cite your reading/videos for for the module. You will maximize the points you earn by completely answering the questions and by promoting discussion with your fellow classmates. Your original posts are due Thursday at 11:59pm, you will be docked 20% on the assignment if they are not completed by this time.

Questions for discussion board:
1. You have read many applications of cognitive dissonance theory. Provide a definition of the term post-decision dissonance and an example that you have observedin your own life, among your friends and family members, or in the news.
2. What are ways that people maintain their self-esteem when it is threatened based on the readings and course materials from this module (name and describe at least 3 ways). What do you and/or your friends do when put in a situation that is somewhat esteem-threatening.
3. Think of two examples from your own life in which your views of yourself have been shaped by your parents, friends, teachers, or culture. To what extent are these examples consistent or inconsistent with the research discussed in course materials on the self?
4. How does justification of effort (or cognitive dissonance, in general) help explain why hazing and initiation rites are common across so many different groups? Make sure to give real life examples ( give the recent death of the boy at NAU who passed due to hazing), and how cognitive dissonance could be at work.
